Juneteenth was a sunny day in Puget Sound, with blue skies providing a backdrop for all of the official events celebrating the holiday in our region on Wednesday. Highs ranged from 15 degrees on the beaches to nearly 27 degrees near Olympia, with over 25 degrees in the Emerald City. Not bad for the grand finale of our spring season!

Summer starts at 1:50pm on Thursday afternoon, and although we often joke that summer doesn't start here until July 5th, this year it's actually here on time! Mostly sunny skies and a warm breeze from the north with temperatures around 27°C in most parts of the Central Sound – truly a dream for being outside boating or barbecuing on what is known as the “longest day of the year.”

Things will get even warmer on Friday, with temperatures between 27 and 30 degrees near Seattle and Bremerton, and between 27 and 30 degrees in the foothills of the Cascades or from Olympia to Centralia. If you're celebrating the new season or the end of the school year near our lakes and rivers, remember that our lakes and rivers are still frigid, and cold shock while swimming early in the season is still a significant hazard.

On Saturday, high clouds and stronger land currents will arrive from the beaches, causing temperatures in Bellevue and Renton to drop slightly to over 25 degrees.

A weak disturbance is approaching close enough to thicken the clouds and bring a few summer showers through Sunday, especially near the ocean beaches or near the Canadian border. Highs will fall back to above 20 degrees near the urban area.

Next week we'll be entering our early summer rhythm, with early clouds followed by afternoon sunshine and highs around the (almost normal) 21 degree mark. We may experience a few isolated showers, but no summer camp-ruining rain showers are expected at this time.

Have a nice night,
Shannon
