Apple plans redesigned iPhone, MacBook Pro and Apple Watch that are significantly thinner

0

Last month, Apple introduced its thinnest product yet, the new M4 iPad Pro. At 5.1 mm thick, the 13-inch M4 iPro Pro model is even thinner than the iPod nano.

As it turns out, Apple plans to treat the rest of its product lineup in a similar way, making the iPhone, Apple Watch, and MacBook Pro all significantly thinner.

In the latest edition of his A Newsletter, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports that the new iPad Pro is the “beginning of a new class of Apple devices” whose goal is for these products to be “the thinnest and lightest products in their category.”

Gurman confirms the reporting of The informationand said that the iPhone 17 lineup will include a new model with an all-new design that is significantly thinner than current iPhone designs. He also notes that Apple is working on new versions of the MacBook Pro and iPad Pro that are thinner than the current generation design:

I'm told that Apple is now focused on creating a significantly thinner phone in time for the iPhone 17 range in 2025. They're also working on making the MacBook Pro and Apple Watch thinner. The plan is for the latest iPad Pro to be the start of a new class of Apple devices that will be the thinnest and lightest products in their category in the entire tech industry.

Notably, the MacBook Pro has become thicker and heavier with its recent redesign in 2021. This redesign corresponded to the MacBook Pro's switch to Apple Silicon, as well as the return of ports like MagSafe, HDMI, and an SD card slot.

Gurman had previously reported on the redesign of the so-called “Apple Watch X,” which is believed to be the “biggest overhaul yet” of the device's design.

There's no information on when the thinner versions of the MacBook Pro and Apple Watch will launch, but the big takeaway here is that the M4 iPad Pro appears to be the start of Apple's next-generation design language.
