What horror movie should you watch on Netflix tonight?

Why does it seem like every movie is over three hours long these days?

I don't mind watching long movies! It would be hypocritical to say that considering I can watch an 8-episode Netflix series in one sitting if I really want to. But what about the latest trend of 3-hour movies? The Irishman, Oppenheimer, Killers of the Flower Moon. I know there's historical precedent, a lot of old school movies were longer, but it really feels like there are no more tight 90-minute movies.

What is the best movie about war?

OK, some of you will say Saving Private Ryan. Others will say Schindler's List, or maybe choose The Battle of Algiers or the Russian version of War and Peace as a really smart idea. For me, though, it's the brutal Come and See – a Belarusian film about World War II that's gaining more and more recognition as time goes on. Why? Because, as beautiful and surreal as it often is, it's also a merciless march through mud and terror. It's visionary and gripping, but that doesn't allow for it to be truly horrific and often intentionally frustrating – like war itself. Yes, the sandbox soldiering in Saving Private Ryan is great, but this is better. What's your favorite? Check out this great list for some solid options.

Will there ever be a Bond film with Idris Elba? Did you want one?

Well, it looks like a definitive “no.” Not only has he publicly stated that he's no longer seeking the role after many years of obvious interest, but producers have reported that they've screened several other actors — most notably Aaron Taylor Johnson — who seem to have a good chance. Add to that the fact that Elba is now 51, 14 years older than he was when Daniel Craig accepted the role in 2005, and it seems dead certain that the only way Elba could star in a Bond film would be if he were playing someone other than Bond (and even that seems unlikely given his current, understandably mixed attitude). There was once massive support for his casting — a movement that brought to light sometimes interesting, sometimes biased questions and arguments about race. Personally, I would have loved it — he's so damn laid-back. And you?

Which is better, Dune 2021 or Dune 1984?

Now that the dust – er – has settled on Dune: Part 2 and we're getting closer to Dune: Messiah, let's take a look back at the Dune vs. Dune question. Among all the other differences, your answer here (and mine!) probably depends on when you saw the various Dunes. I, for one, saw both in theaters back when they came out (because I'm old) and didn't have to wait until the 1984 version's special effects were completely outdated. Dune: Part 2 absolutely has the best scene in the series (the war council) – but for me, the alien, strange, and deeply inscrutable nature of the characters in Lynch's version appealed to me more and opened my mind to the possibilities of science fiction. Villeneuve clearly put together the better films (particularly Part 2!). Still, his characters are very familiar in many ways to anyone who watches films. For me, the strangeness of the cast and settings of the 1984 version make it my personal favorite and – although it deviates from the books in profound ways – closer to the experience of

Who would you like to see in Sam Mendes' Beatles biographies?

Biopics are obviously a tricky proposition in Hollywood, especially for fans of major groups who want to see their favorites portrayed in a good (or at least not completely ignorant) light. Sam Mendes is currently working on four separate biopics for each member of The Beatles. Who would you like to see in the role of some of the world's greatest musicians?

What is the scariest children's film?

Everyone has that one film they saw as a child that they thought was lighthearted and funny, but that scared them so much that they can't watch it now, decades later. Pinocchio springs to mind, it's a horror film through and through. But what do you think is the scariest children's film?
