Conor McGregor will not return to the cage as planned at UFC 303 later this month, and the UFC superstar and former double champion has now spoken out about the situation.

McGregor's status in the main event of UFC 303 on June 29 was thrown into question after a pre-fight press conference scheduled in his hometown of Dublin was cancelled at the last minute. After numerous reports led to a “will he or won't he” situation, it was finally announced this week that “The Notorious” is out due to injury.

On Saturday, McGregor spoke about his decision to cancel his date with Michael Chandler, which is now expected to take place in August or September.

“It's very tough to be ruled out of my planned comeback fight. I sustained an injury before the press conference that required more time to heal than I had available,” McGregor said. wrote on social media. “The decision to postpone the fight was not an easy one for me, but was made in consultation with my doctors, the UFC and my team. My fans and my opponent deserve me to do my best for this fight and we will get it done! Thank you for the supportive messages, I am in good spirits and confident that I will come back!”

As reported by Ariel Helwani from MMA Fightingthe hope is to move the fight to August or September. Because of this, the UFC is considering possibly adding a PPV to its schedule to accommodate McGregor's return. In July, the promotion will be in the UK for UFC 304, while the following month they will travel to Australia for 305. Neither location makes sense, while UFC 306 will take place in September at The Sphere in Las Vegas. This card is intended to celebrate Mexican Independence Day, similar to Noche UFC last year.

The exact nature of Conor McGregor's injury has not been disclosed. The former lightweight and featherweight champion has not competed since breaking his leg in the deciding fight of his trilogy with Dustin Poirier in 2021.
