Conor McGregor out of UFC 303, Dana White announces 3 replacement fights

A turbulent few weeks for the UFC and combat sports fans finally reached their climax yesterday when Dana White officially announced that McGregor's return fight at UFC 303 alongside Michael Chandler was canceled.

The UFC CEO revealed a revamped card headlined by a rematch between Alex Pereira and Jiří Procházka with a new co-main event featuring Brian Ortega and Diego Lopes, and while fans around the globe shared their thoughts on the news, Poirier simply responded on social media.

“The Diamond” cleverly echoed McGregor’s own words in his reaction to the UFC 303 news, as a now-deleted tweet from the former two-division champion called PPV numbers for UFC 302 “nothing” after Poirier and Islam Makhachev headlined the event.

Poirier suffered a fifth-round submission loss to Makhachev in the main event of UFC 302, but the former interim lightweight champion has now competed five times since a trilogy fight with McGregor in 2021, which was the last time fans saw the Irishman in the Octagon.

“The Diamond” has already indicated that he considers the rivalry with McGregor to be over after Poirier won their last two encounters at UFC 257 and UFC 264. At the moment, the UFC apparently intends to postpone the McGregor vs. Chandler duel to another event later this year.
