Rescue teams save 28 people who were dangling upside down on a ride

Firefighters in Portland, Oregon, said they rescued around 30 people who were hanging upside down after an attraction malfunctioned at Oaks Amusement Park on Friday, June 14. Portland Fire & Rescue said rescue crews worked with park technicians to manually lower the AtmosFEAR attraction after it stopped in the 360-degree setting and riders were left dangling in the air for at least 25 minutes. One rider with a pre-existing medical condition was taken to the hospital for further evaluation. All other riders were medically evaluated, Oaks Amusement Park said in a statement on Facebook. “At approximately 2:55 p.m. this afternoon, the AtmosFEAR attraction stopped at the apex during the 360-degree setting and 28 riders were left hanging upside down,” the park said. “One rider with underlying medical conditions was transported to the hospital for further evaluation out of an abundance of caution. All other riders were released by paramedics and were able to go home to their families,” the statement continued. The attraction will remain closed until further notice.
