Caleb Williams started a great trend that Bears fans miss

0

One thing Chicago Bears fans quickly learn about Caleb Williams is that his personality is almost a direct contrast to that of Justin Fields. While the latter was reserved and not known for his outgoing nature, Williams is the exact opposite. When the Bears selected him No. 1 in April, he let out a roar of joy. He took photos with fans and celebrated when Rome Odunze was selected No. 9 an hour later. Since coming to Chicago, he has performed at several baseball games and even hung out with fans at a local bar, egging them on to chants of “Green Bay sucks.”

There's something else he's done since arriving. Fans have probably missed it because they've been busy watching his college highlights, training clips and various quotes about his progress. Williams is the same person during his press conferences and shows no signs of discomfort answering questions. He seems honest, thoughtful and isn't afraid to poke teammates when necessary. But the best part comes at the end. Once the questioning is over, Williams stands up and says the same line every time he leaves.

In any case, Caleb Williams is thrilled.

Name the last quarterback who did anything remotely like that after his press conference. Don't try. You'll never find anyone. Many college sources said Williams had a pretty unique personality. He's comfortable in his own skin and relentlessly positive in everything he does. Isn't it a little embarrassing to say “Da Bears” after every press conference? Yes, it is. Does Williams care? Obviously not. He wants to let everyone know he's 100% behind this organization, including its proud history.

Some people may roll their eyes, but ignore that. That's what Bears fans should want. While Fields worked hard to become the franchise quarterback this organization wanted, it never felt like he identified with its identity. That's not his fault. It's his personality. Caleb Williams is different. He wants to internalize an organization's culture from top to bottom. That includes their iconic sayings. Rest assured, when he starts winning those games, Bears fans will be shouting those words at him every time he appears on the sidewalk.
