Julia Butters talks about her involvement in Disney's “Freaky Friday 2”

Julia Butters, known for her work in Once upon a time in Hollywood And The Fabelmansis in talks about joining the Crazy Friday Continuation at Disney, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

The studio confirmed plans for the long-awaited film last year and announced in March that Nisha Ganatra Welcome to Chippendales was commissioned to direct the film.

Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan, who starred in the original, were also in talks to return, although the studio has yet to officially confirm the cast, including Curtis and Lohan. Disney did not comment on Butters' casting.

Andrew Gunn, who produced the 2003 film, will produce alongside former Disney executive Kristin Burr.

Curtis and Lohan have spoken openly about their aspirations to Crazy Friday Continuation for years. “We would only do something that people would absolutely love,” Lohan told the New York Times in 2023.

The couple celebrated the news of Ganatra's hiring with a post on Instagram in March.

The previous film was a remake of a 1977 film starring Barbara Harris and Jodie Foster, based on the 1972 novel by Mary Rodgers. Directed by Mark Waters from a screenplay by Heather Hach and Leslie, the 2003 film grossed $160.8 million worldwide, received positive reviews, and is now considered a cult classic.
