A busy three-week stretch on the PGA Tour begins this week with the 2024 Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village. A foretaste of the U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2, the Memorial welcomes the PGA Tour's best players and is once again a flagship event of the tournament.

Like the Arnold Palmer Invitational and Genesis Invitational, the Memorial is the last chance for players to refine their game as it is measured over 36 holes. One game that hardly needs any improvement is that of Scottie Scheffler. The world number one comes to Ohio as the clear favorite after his top-10 performance at the PGA Championship and second place at the Charles Schwab Challenge. Scheffler, who was one stroke away from the playoffs at this event last season, is now hoping to break through at Jack with a cooperative putter in tow.

Speaking of cooperative, that could be an adjective to describe Xander Schauffele's game. The PGA Championship winner is making his first start since becoming a major champion at a venue where he has finished in the top 25 five times in a row. With a big win under his belt, the world No. 2 could be close to catching Scheffler.

Rory McIlroy completes the three-headed monster that leads this field. McIlroy, who has won twice this season, enjoyed a fine Canadian Open in Ontario last week that earned him a top-five finish. With his iron play improving week by week, the four-time major champion will be hoping for another strong showing before he peaks next week.

While Scheffler, Schauffele and McIlroy have entered the winner's circle a total of eight times in 2024, many big names on the PGA Tour have not. Defending champion Viktor Hovland, two-time major champion Collin Morikawa, Ludvig Åberg, Max Homa, Justin Thomas, Jordan Spieth, Patrick Cantlay, Tony Finau, Tommy Fleetwood and Cameron Young are all seeking their first win of the season at Muirfield Village.
