Netflix series highlights a Michigan family's struggle with the TikTok cult

A new Netflix docuseries highlights a Michigan family's battle for their daughter with an alleged TikTok cult led by Robert Shinn.

“Dancing for the Devil: The 7M TikTok Cult” is a three-part docuseries that premiered on Netflix last week. The series offers an in-depth look at the Wilking family’s search for the fate of their daughter Miranda.

What is 7M?

7M is a management company and a private, invitation-only church led by Pastor Robert Shinn. According to the Guardian, many of the dancers who have joined 7M believe in their families that they have joined a cult. In the Netflix documentary, statements from former members also suggest this belief.

However, Robert Shinn, pastor of the Shekinah Church and founder of 7M, describes it merely as a talent management company.

Who is Miranda Wilking?

The series examines a Warren, Michigan family and their involvement in the alleged cult, spotlighting sisters Miranda and Melanie, who dreamed of becoming famous dancers. The pair built a network of millions of followers on TikTok with their viral dance videos before Miranda moved to Los Angeles and became estranged from her family.

Another Detroit native, Kylie Douglas of Novi, appears in the streaming service's docuseries, according to Detroit's WDIV. Douglas was eventually able to break away from the cult and spoke about her experiences while in the cult's clutches.

“Dancing for the Devil: The 7M TikTok Cult” premiered on Netflix in May. You can watch the trailer for the series here.
