GameStop shares rose as much as 41% on Thursday after retail hero Keith Gill's YouTube channel scheduled a livestream for 11 a.m. Friday.

The stock gave up some gains and was trading at $39.98 at 2:25 p.m. ET.

The upcoming livestream is titled “Roaring Kitty Live Stream – June 7, 2024” and 12,500 YouTubers are already “waiting” for the stream to start.

The chat function on YouTube linked to the live stream was running extremely fast on Thursday afternoon.

“LES GO DIAMOND HANDS,” wrote YouTube user Jmoa.

YouTube user Adam Smith wrote “ROARING KITTEN WE LOVE YOU!!!!!!”

Gill's YouTube account, The Roaring Kitty, gained tens of thousands of subscribers on Thursday, rising to 711,000.

Gill's social media accounts have experienced a revival in recent weeks after a three-year hiatus.

Last month, Gill's account, “Roaring Kitty X,” posted a ton of memes, sparking a massive surge in meme stocks, led by GameStop shares.

Last Sunday, Gill posted a “GME YOLO update” on his Reddit account DeepFuckingValue, which included a screenshot of his current portfolio positioning.

Gill announced that he owns five million GameStop shares, valued at over $200 million as of Thursday afternoon.

He also disclosed that he owns a call option with a strike price of $20 that expires on June 21. That option position is worth nearly $275 million based on Thursday afternoon prices and gives Gill the right to purchase 12 million GameStop shares at a strike price of $20.

All in all, Gill holds a bullish bet on GameStop worth over $480 million at Thursday afternoon's price.

Business Insider could not confirm whether the screenshot of Gill's brokerage statement posted on Reddit is authentic.
