Five Warhawks named to Athlon Sports Preseason All-Sun Belt Team

Elijah Fisher, Hunter Smith, Carl Glass, Car'lin Vigers and Jaylan Ware were among the preseason All-Conference teams selected by Athlon Sports.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – As the magazine revealed, five ULM football players have earned a spot on Athlon Sports' Preseason All-Sun Belt Conference team.

Young offensive players Elijah Fisher was selected to the second team to lead ULM's selection. Three Warhawks were selected to the third team, including running back Hunter SmithLinebackers Carl Glass Jr. and Cornerback Car'lin Vigers. Jaylan Ware rounded out ULM's preseason all-conference list with a fourth-team selection on the defensive line.

Fisher, a native of Allen, Texas, is a two-year starter for ULM's offensive line. He started all 12 games for ULM in 2023 and earned Honorable Mention All-SBC honors after compiling a 79.6 pass blocking score for the season while committing no penalties, according to PFF.

Smith, a tailback from Little Rock, Arkansas, reached the end zone three times in 2023 and was ULM's leading runner after rushing for 507 yards and averaging 5.4 yards per carry. Smith's season-best was a 62-yard touchdown in ULM's 17-13 win over Army in Week 1.

Glass, a senior linebacker from Monroe, was selected to the third team on defense. Glass appeared in 24 games for ULM and totaled 59.0 tackles, 7.0 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks and two forced fumbles last season.

Vigers joined Glass on the third team in defense and has accumulated 93 total tackles, six pass deflections, two forced fumbles, one interception, one fumble recovery and one blocked kick in 23 games for the Warhawks.

Ware was the third member of the ULM defense to appear on the preseason all-conference list and earned fourth-team defensive back honors. In his first season in the Warhawks uniform, the transfer from Hinds Community College started every game on the defensive line and made 54 total tackles, including six tackles for loss and one fumble recovery.

The Warhawks begin the 2024 season on Thursday, August 29 at home against Jackson State under the lights at Malone Stadium. Season tickets are on sale now and fans can secure their seats by visiting the ULM Football season ticket page.
