Jayda Coleman hit a game-winning home run in the eighth inning to give Oklahoma a 6-5 victory over Florida on Tuesday that clinched the national championship again, as the Sooners seek an unprecedented fourth consecutive title.

The Sooners will face the tournament's No. 1 seed, the Texas Longhorns, in a best-of-three final starting Wednesday night. The Longhorns have never won a national title but earned the tournament's No. 1 seed after a 55-8 season record.

The Longhorns' season opener hasn't been flawless. They've had to rebound from an Austin Super Regional loss to Texas A&M in the series opener. They also lost the Big 12 Softball Championship to the same Sooners they'll now face for the national title, so the series could be redemption for the Longhorns.

Here is a recent AP WCWS story:

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Jayda Coleman hit a game-winning home run in the eighth inning to give Oklahoma a 6-5 victory over Florida in the Women's College World Series semifinals on Tuesday, giving the Sooners a chance at an unprecedented fourth consecutive championship series title.

Coleman sent Keagan Rothrock's 154th pitch of the game just behind the outstretched glove of left fielder Korbe Otis and over the fence.

“I wanted to take my time getting the pitch I wanted to see,” Coleman said. “I saw the middle. I knew I had to hold the ball. As I was going around the bases, I lost control and just started crying.”

Coleman stretched her arms above her head as she rounded the bases and was mobbed by her teammates at the plate while fans screamed in the stadium, just a half-hour drive from Oklahoma's campus in Norman.

“I think one of the better games in College World Series history,” said Oklahoma coach Patty Gasso. “A thrill. A little bit of everything.”

Ella Parker hit a home run and scored three runs for the second-seeded Sooners (57-7), who will play No. 1-seeded Texas (55-8) in the best-of-three championship series starting Wednesday night. Oklahoma has won five of the last seven national titles and seven overall. Texas has never won a national title.

Oklahoma defeated Texas in the 2022 championship series. That year, Texas won the Big 12 regular-season title while Oklahoma won the conference tournament. The two rival schools will leave the Big 12 next season and move to the Southeastern Conference.

Gasso, who has led the Sooners to seven national titles, said she did not expect the Sooners to return to the championship series.

“I don't think I thought we would come back here because it's so difficult to get here,” she said. “The way we managed it was wonderful.”

Texas has a 3-0 record in the World Series this year, with each game being a one-hit shutout.

Oklahoma, meanwhile, had lost 9-3 to Florida the day before and had to make up a three-point deficit in Tuesday's elimination game.

Rothrock, a freshman, threw 379 pitches in three days to give the Gators a chance.

“I mean, I'm lost for words,” Florida center fielder Kendra Falby said. “You can't ask more from a freshman. She's not even a freshman. I don't consider her a freshman at all. Keagan came out and did everything and more for us.”

Florida led 5-2 on Tuesday when Oklahoma's Cydney Sanders hit a two-run homer to center in the fourth inning. Parker tied the game in the sixth with a two-out RBI single that brought home Avery Hodge from second base.

Oklahoma pitcher Kelly Maxwell struck out all six Florida batters in the seventh and eighth innings to set up the ending. She threw 148 pitches and held the Gators scoreless over the final five innings.

Parker made it 2-2 with a two-run homer to second base in the first. Jocelyn Erickson, who won a national title with Oklahoma last season before moving to the team, hit a two-run homer for Florida in the second.

All of the Gators' runs came on home runs. Ariel Kowalewski's second-inning home run, a two-run shot and her eighth of the year, gave Florida a 4-2 lead, and Reagan Walsh's third-inning solo shot made it 5-2.

Parker hit a single in the fifth inning and tried to turn it into a double. She collided with Florida shortstop Skylar Wallace at second base and the ball came loose when Wallace's forearm struck Parker's helmet. Wallace was charged with obstruction, making Parker safe at second base. Both players remained on the ground for a short time before getting up.

“I don't really remember much because the adrenaline was just pumping through my veins,” Parker said. “I just did whatever I could to get to second base.”

Parker was checked for signs of a concussion and returned to score the tying point.

“She wanted it,” Gasso said. “We asked, 'Are you OK? I know you're cleared, is everything OK?' She said, 'Yes, yes, yes, get me back in there.'”
