Kerry Washington jokes about the “Black Wife Effect” with “Scandal” co-star Tony Goldwyn

Kerry Washington rightly takes some of the credit for scandal The radiance of his co-star Tony Goldwyn.

On Tuesday, Washington stirred up the emotions of her Olitz fans by sharing her contribution to the #BlackWifeEffect trend: a video of Goldwyn stalking before and after her performance as Olivia Pope alongside fellow Fitzgerald Grant.

“Tony! I have enriched your life in so many ways #BlackWifeEffect and today I'm adding one more,” Washington wrote on Instagram before urging him (and his fans) to register to vote. “Go change your voter registration status to REGISTERED 😜. I love you!!!!!!”

The video has all the hallmarks of the “Black Wife Effect” trend making the rounds on TikTok: Set to the tune of Tommy Richman's “Million Dollar Baby,” Washington argues that her role as Goldwyn's on-screen wife has sparked a joyful blossoming, comparing photos of him when he was younger to those taken when the two were still together.

Washington and Goldwyn spent seven scandalous seasons in a rocky, on-again, off-again romance as Fitz and Olivia, a politician and his fixer. They endured kidnappings, election fraud, self-sabotage and 124 episodes of drama as DC's ill-fated lovers.

The couple married in season 6 and initially experienced rocky aftermaths, but got back together by the series finale in 2018.

Since the show ended, Goldwyn and Washington have kept the love for Olitz alive with mini-reunions and numerous social media posts referencing their time on the show.

Whether they could ever return to the screen, scandal Creator Shonda Rhimes has at least expressed interest in reviving Washington's tough political power broker. When asked in 2023 which of her Shondaland characters she would revive, Rhimes said, “Olivia Pope. I like that character so much, even when she was evil. I like that character so much, she's very interesting.”
