MMA star Sammy Jo-Luxton hospitalized with sepsis and has to cancel next fight

MMA candidate Sammy-Jo Luxton is currently in hospital battling sepsis.

The Manchester Top Team star was set to make her highly anticipated Professional Fighters League debut in Newcastle on Saturday night.

For the 25-year-old Luxton, the toughest test of her short MMA career was ahead: the Dutchwoman Lizzy Gevers.

But “The Ghetto Cinderella” had to withdraw from participation in the lucrative European PFL Women’s Featherweight Championship due to fatal sepsis.

Luxton announced her hospitalization on her X and Instagram pages and shared snapshots of herself feeling unwell and lying in her bed.

Her caption read: “It was supposed to be fight week but unfortunately the curse is still on me.

“I had emergency surgery in April. Since then, the disease has become infected, spread to my kidneys and I am now suffering from sepsis.

“I have been in the hospital since May 28th. My temperature has reached 41 degrees and I am suffering from seizures.

“I really can't say much, I'm just incredibly disappointed.”

Numerous followers of the former kickboxer sent her well wishes, one of which read: “Sorry to hear that Sammy, I hope you recover quickly.”

Another said: “I'm sorry, I know how this feels. Hope you feel better soon.”

And another said: “I'm so sorry to hear this… best wishes for a speedy recovery and hope to see you back in the cage soon!”

One remarked: “Jesus, hell. Get well soon.”

Another chimed in: “Sad News I indeed wish you a speedy and full recovery.”

Doctors have put Luxton at “industrial strength” Antibiotics to combat the deadly effects of the disease.

She wrote: “It's a bit scary because it goes downhill quickly. I was put on high doses Antibioticsas the hospital called it.

“It took three days for my body to react to this force.”

Luxton is eager to compete under the PFL flag, although her current focus is solely on getting better.

She said: “[It’s] too early to say [when I’ll be back]They don't even know when I can leave the hospital.

“So I don’t know what my recovery will look like.”
