According to Deadline, Fanning is currently negotiating to star in “Badlands,” a new “Predator” film directed by Dan Trachtenberg.

She also played Aurora in Disney's 2015 film Maleficent, as well as its 2019 sequel, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil. In addition, she played Catherine the Great in Hulu's The Great, which ended in 2023 after three seasons.

What do we know about Badlands?

The plot details of Badlands remain under wraps for now. The film is apparently not a sequel to 2022's Prey, but will take place “sometime in the future.”

According to Deadline, a direct sequel to Prey, which may feature Amber Midthunder reprising her role as Naru, is also still in “early development.” The article notes, “Sources stress that there is no talent involved in this film, but the interesting thing is that while there have been seven films starring the infamous alien, there has never been a case of the star of a previous film returning to reprise his role.”

The original Predator was released in 1987. It was followed by Predator 2 in 1990, Predators in 2010, The Predator in 2018, and Prey in 2022. There have also been two crossover films with the Alien series, Alien vs. Predator in 2004 and Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem in 2007.

The screenplay for Badlands was written by Trachtenberg and Patrick Aison. The film does not yet have an official release date.
