Jailton Almeida believes it is time for Ciryl Gane to face a new challenge in the UFC heavyweight division.

UFC News: Islam Makhachev confirms medical rumors for UFC 302 title fight

“Malhadinho” returned to the Octagon last weekend at UFC 302, defeating Alexandr Romanov to secure another win after the Brazilian suffered the first loss of his UFC career to Curtis Blaydes at UFC 299.

Almeida's first-round finish earned him plenty of mic time following his win over Romanov, securing him a spot on the promoter's upcoming fight card on September 28 in Paris, France.

Instead of sitting back and waiting to see if his request would be granted, Almeida took to social media the day after UFC 302 to officially challenge former interim titleholder Gane to the main event in Paris, and also called out UFC matchmaker Mick Maynard and UFC CEO Dana White.

Gane is currently ranked No. 2 in the UFC heavyweight rankings and was able to secure another win last September when he stopped Serghei Spivac, but he failed to win the undisputed heavyweight belt in two duels with Francis Ngannou and Jon Jones.

“Bon Gamin” is considered the presumed favorite for the third headlining appearance at UFC Paris when the organization returns to the Accor Arena in September. The 34-year-old has already achieved two UFC victories in the French capital in his previous headlining fights against Spivac and Tai Tuivasa.

Interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall may object to the idea of the main event of UFC Paris being a title eliminator as he prepares to defend his interim belt against Curtis Blaydes at UFC 304. But few fans would object to seeing a sensational style clash between Gane and Almeida as the main event on September 28.
