Khabib Nurmagomedov immediately angry at 'crazy' judges after Dana White and Sean Strickland criticise UFC 302 scorecard

0

UFC 302 is over and we have our winners from the fights. In the main event, Islam Makhachev and Sean Strickl emerged victorious. However, there were numerous refereeing issues during the event, especially in Strickl vs. Costa. Despite Strickl's overwhelming performance against the Brazilian, he took the win by split decision. Even in the Makhachev fight, there were some incorrect rulings that were later exposed by Daniel Cormier and Khabib Nurmagomedov.

The split verdict and controversial decision in the fight between Makhachev and Dustin Poirier prompted the UFC boss to intervene and make a harsh statement against the judge. Now Khabib Nurmagomedov has made his own statement and called for improvements in the scoring.

The judge's split decision came as a shock to the MMA community. The decision surprised Sean Strickland as he was expecting a win by unanimous decision. After claiming the win, Sean Strickland was asked for his opinion on the scoring, to which the former middleweight champion said: “You know, man, the judges are crazy guys. I don't think they watch fights. I don't think they know how fights work. So you never know. If you leave it to the judges, you know, only the gods know.”

Well, Strickland's fight wasn't the only one that fell victim to incorrect scoring. The main event of UFC 302 also had its fair share of problems. During a conversation with Khabib Nurmagomedov, Daniel Cormier claimed that Makhachev and Poirier's fight was tied 2-2 in the fifth round. When Khabib Nurmagomedov heard this, only one thing came out of his mouth: “What.”

When “The Eagle” asked Daniel Cormier how this could happen, “DC” was equally confused and said: “I don't know.” In the end, Nurmagomedov claimed that there had been numerous cases of bogus verdicts under this card. “A judge gave a lot of fights crazy numbers. Like 50-45. Send me this guy's name and location.” said Nurmagomedov.

Islam Makhachev won by submission, otherwise we could have seen another controversy. Well, Dana White was also angry about the incorrect scoring and took the microphone to give a heated response.

UFC boss Dana White dismantled the jury

Dana White was equally shocked as he did not expect such erroneous rulings in such a big division. While speaking to the media after the event at the UFC 302 press conference, White was asked about his opinion on the ruling at UFC 302, to which he said that it was unfortunate and the judge who made the erroneous decision, Dave Tirelli, should never have ruled.

“It wasn't weird, it was fucking crazy, that's what it was. Insane. This guy should never judge a big fight again. They should send him back to the minor leagues and let him work on his scoring. It's unbelievable. How anyone who isn't absolutely insane can call this fight a split decision, I don't even know what to say. It's insane. This guy shouldn't judge a big fight.” said Dana White during the UFC 302 press conference.

If we take Strickland's fight into account, the former champion completely out-punched Paulo Costa over the course of five rounds. He had 182 compression strikes, Costa 158. No wonder Dana White was upset with the score. Do you think this prompted the promotion to ask for better judges? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
