Some new reports have surfaced that Disney Studios is developing a film adaptation of Square Enix's iconic action-RPG game franchise Kingdom Hearts.

There have been rumors about this project over the years, and while a Kingdom Hearts The film has not been officially greenlit yet and a film is in development.

This news comes from Insider Coopers DanielRPK and The DisInsider. Disney is said to be developing the project as a live-action/CGI hybrid, in the style of the recent Sonic the Hedgehog films.

He further reports that the Kingdom Hearts The film adaptation is in the works at Disney as of April 26th, and if the project actually comes to fruition, there will be a major theatrical release.

DanielRPK also said that the next main part will be in the Kingdom Hearts Series, Kingdom Hearts 4will be released sometime in 2025. This will allow the franchise to regain importance just in time for a possible film adaptation, should Disney decide to move forward with the project.

There were previous reports that animation had taken place Kingdom Hearts The film was in the works for Disney+. Then, in 2003, Disney Channel greenlit a pilot for a TV adaptation of Kingdom Hearts but I didn't place a series order.

The decision to do this was based on the difficulty of keeping the series consistent with the ever-expanding gaming universe. A pilot animation from the planned series was released online later in 2022 and then removed.

Kingdom Hearts combines the worlds of Disney and Final Fantasy. The game follows the journey of a young boy named Sora, who, armed with a magical weapon called the Keyblade, travels through various Disney-style worlds to fight against dark forces called the Heartless.

Along with his companions Donald Duck and Goofy, sent as envoys from Disney Castle by King Mickey, Sora attempts to prevent the Heartless from devouring these worlds by closing the “keyholes” that keep each world stable.

Fans love the game's narrative and it could be a pretty great movie if the story was handled correctly. We'll just have to wait and see what Disney does.
