The live-action film “Masters of the Universe” has moved from Netflix to Amazon MGM Studios, confirming a 2026 release date.

The previously announced film, which will be directed by Bumblebee's Travis Knight, will hit theaters on June 5, 2026. The screenplay for the film was written by Chris Butler, based on initial drafts by David Callaham and Aaron and Adam Nee.

The film was originally developed for Netflix, but the streamer dropped it in summer 2023. Now Amazon is backing him and the movie “Masters of the Universe” is back on track to introduce a 10-year-old Prince Adam.

The film begins with the protagonist crashing to Earth in a spaceship and becoming separated from his magical energy sword, the only connection to his home on Eternia.

“After tracking it down nearly two decades later, Prince Adam is flown back through space to defend his home planet against the evil forces of Skeletor,” the synopsis reads.

“But to defeat such a powerful villain, Prince Adam must first uncover the secrets of his past and become He-Man: the most powerful man in the universe!”

It's not clear whether American Horror Story and West Side Story actor Kyle Allen, who was originally signed to play Prince Adam/He-Man on Netflix, will return for the Amazon project.
