Former DCEU boss to produce R-rated Ninja Turtles film

The Heroes in a Half-Shell is getting a new live-action film, but this one will be much more mature than the previous one Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Films. It was announced that a new film based on it is in the works TMNT: The Last Roninand it will receive a rating that reflects the more adult content.



According to THR, Paramount Pictures has greenlit a new live-action feature film based directly on the IDW comic series Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin. The film is also developed Intention to give it an R rating, a departure from the previous films in the franchise. Tyler Burton Smith (Boy kills world2019 Child's play) writes the script and Former DC Films boss Walter Hamada will produce over 18Hz.

The comic, written by TMNT Co-creators Kevin Eastman and Tom Waltz, based on an older story by Eastman and co-creator Peter Laird. The Last Ronin The comics were published between 2020 and 2022 and became a huge success, leading to the recent sequel story. TMNT: The Last Ronin II – Re-Evolution. The comic tells the story of a last ninja turtle who remains after the death of Splinter and his three siblings and takes revenge using the signature weapons of all four characters. The story does not initially reveal which of the four turtles survived.


Eastman and Laird launched the brand in 1984 with the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Comic book. This spawned a huge franchise with a variety of films, television shows, video games, books and more. There have been several live-action adaptations in the past, including the original feature film trilogy: 1990s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles1991s TMNT II: The Secret of the Oozeand 1993 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III. Two live-action films from producer Michael Bay were also released in 2014 and 2016. A live-action TV series from 1997 to 1998, Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutationaired on Fox.

The franchise recently returned to the big screen with the 2023 animated film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem. The film was acclaimed and a box office hit, leading to a sequel, which is currently in the works. There will also be an accompanying animated series, Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtlesis coming to Paramount+.

A release date for the new film has not yet been set Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin.
