Rice, who grew up in the Fort Worth suburb of North Richland Hills and attended Southern Methodist University, was listed on a police call sheet obtained by the newspaper. The accident occurred in the 6600 block of North Central Expressway after a driver in a Chevrolet Corvette – believed to be Rice – and a driver in a Lamborghini near the SMU campus were seen speeding before both lost control lost their vehicles, according to a Dallas police spokeswoman Kristin Lowman said via the Dallas Morning News.

Lowman said the Lamborghini was spotted on the side of the road before it “hit the center median wall, causing a chain reaction with four other vehicles.”

According to Lowman, the occupants of the Lamborghini and Corvette fled the scene without providing any information or seeing if anyone else involved in the accident needed medical attention. Two other drivers were treated at the scene for minor injuries and two others were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Lowman said the department is still working to identify all suspects involved in the crash. Rice was not listed in Dallas County Jail records as of 9:50 a.m. Sunday and it was not immediately clear whether he was charged in connection with the crash. Rice was selected by the Chiefs in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft at No. 55 overall and served as the team's primary wide receiver during his rookie season.

The former SMU star recorded 79 receptions for 938 yards and seven touchdowns during the regular season and 26 receptions for 262 yards and a touchdown during the postseason through Super Bowl LVIII.
