HOF comments on the late traffic jam…

Only remembers the game on the field

Recognition by the Pro Football Hall of Fame OJ Simpson's says goodbye on Thursday with a longer statement… but that includes the org. clearly distanced himself from his actions off the field – he only remembered the Bills' running back for his play.

The Canton, Ohio facility was released the laudation Just minutes after Simpson's family announced that the former NFL star had died of complications from cancer earlier this week.

The HOF's statement on Simpson's death was about 500 words long… and contained no praise – just facts about his football career.

“OJ Simpson became the first player to reach a rushing mark that many thought could not be achieved in a 14-game season when he surpassed 2,000 yards,” HOF President said Jim Porter said. “His local contributions are preserved at the Hall Archives in Canton, Ohio.”

The statement then listed all of OJ's accomplishments – including his Heisman Trophy win and his MVP award – and seemingly carefully avoided any of his off-field moves that made him one of the most polarizing figures in American history.

However, the Heisman Trophy Trust took a slightly different approach in announcing Simpson's death, saying it was mourning his passing.

“We extend our condolences to his family,” it said in a statement.

Meanwhile, others from around the football world took to their X-page to comment on the news…featuring the Philadelphia Eagles star Darius Slay I write: “RIP OJ.”

Antonio Brown also posted a RIP message…as did the ex-Detroit Lions tight end Eric Ebron.

Former Ravens wideout Torrey Smith posted a message about Simpson in which he lambasted journalists for using images from his infamous time at trials to announce his death.

“No matter what you may think of him, he was innocent in court and he has kids out here,” Smith said. “You all have no respect.”

Smith was 76 years old.
