What are TikTok Notes? Short video platform to introduce a photo-sharing app that will take on rival company Instagram

0

TikTok is one of the largest and most popular video sharing platforms with millions of users. According to reports from TechCrunch, TikTok is working on a photo and text sharing app that is very similar to the photo sharing platform Instagram. This news suggests that the country's two most popular social media platforms are ensuring their rivalry continues.

Users receive notifications about new photo sharing apps

A new photo-sharing app called TikTok Notes has been announced to users through pop-up notifications in recent days. It's the latest example of social media companies copying others' products. In 2020, Instagram introduced Reels, a video tool similar to TikTok. Since Instagram launched Reels, the app has gained many more users.

What are TikTok Notes?

Currently available on the web, Notes.tiktok.com features a broken app button that encourages Polaroid-like postings with a still image and text, reminiscent of the type of content that used to dominate Instagram before Facebook parent company Meta she acquired in 2012. While posting images is currently possible on TikTok, the company plans to experiment with creating a text-only and photo-sharing section.

Currently the feature is not available and no data or information has been released about it. According to a spokesperson, there are currently no plans for the company to test it in the US; Instead, it will only be tested in smaller markets.

The spokesperson added: “As part of our ongoing commitment to innovating the TikTok experience, we are looking for ways to give our community the opportunity to create and share their creativity with photos and text in a dedicated area for these formats.”

The company was rumored last month to be working on a photo-sharing app called TikTok Photos, based on language and code discovered in the TikTok APK file, an installable file type for Android. However, the latest TikTok pop-ups suggest that the company may be thinking about renaming the app.

There is intense competition between TikTok and Meta for the attention of social media users. Facebook's first vertical video player, Meta, has been released as the ByteDance-owned app prepares to release a photo-sharing app. Additionally, TikTok is experimenting with several features, including text posts like X and Threads and 30-minute videos.
