Albany State Football announces change to home opening date

ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) – Albany State University (ASU) Athletics has announced a schedule change for its opening home game against Shaw University. The game originally scheduled for September 5th will now be played at Albany State on September 7th, 2024. There are no changes to the time, kick-off is at 6:00 p.m

The reason for the change arises from the loss of sponsors for the 2024 season, which resulted in program changes for various programs. ASU agreed to the changes after Shaw University made a request.

“As members of the HBCU community, it is important for us to support each other in times of need.” said Athletics Director Dr. Kristene Kelly. “We are happy to accommodate Shaw University’s request and look forward to hosting the Bears on September 7.”

Head coach Quinn Gray also supported the university's need for a schedule change, saying: “We are ready to take the field on September 7th and show what Albany State football is all about. #MoveTheNeedle”.
