How to make a homemade day cream

Before you begin

This natural face cream recipe is formulated for normal skin. To make a cream that’s best suited for a different skin type, you’ll have to swap some ingredients. See our article on skincare routines and ingredients for different skin types for further info. It’s important to note that you can only replace the hydrosol, oil, vegetable butter, and essential oil in this recipe. The other ingredients (the emulsifier and preservatives) cannot be changed. Further, you can only replace the oil with other oils, the vegetable butter with other vegetable butters, and the hydrosol with other hydrosols. The essential oil can be replaced with other essential oils, with aromatic essences, or with a mixture of the two.

Good to know!

  • The composition of jojoba oil is very close to that of your skin’s sebum. This makes it a choice ingredient for homemade face creams!
  • Mango butter was selected for its nourishing properties and because it won’t leave a greasy film on your skin. It’s also rich in antioxidants, which help reduce the visible signs of aging.
  • Orange blossom hydrosol will give your skin a healthy glow.
  • If you have dry skin, we recommend increasing the quantity of vegetable butter by 2.5 g (5%) and reducing the quantity of hydrosol by 2.5 g (5%). Your DIY day cream will then be better suited to your skin’s specific needs!
  • In choosing your essential oils, it’s important to check whether they are dermocaustic (for example: clove, cinnamon, and ginger, among others). If they are, all your dermocaustic essential oils combined should not make up more than 0.5% of your recipe.
