How to make your own lip balm

Before you begin

In this lip balm recipe, we use cocoa butter, which will give the product a nice chocolaty flavour! If that doesn’t appeal to you, you can opt for deodorized cocoa butter, which, as the name suggests, is unscented.

Tools

Good to know!

  • Above all, do not substitute the wax in your recipe with a different wax, or you risk altering the texture and finish of the final product. However, you can use whichever beeswax you’d like!
  • If you wish to replace a butter or oil with another, make sure you choose a similar product: For example, replace a hard butter with another hard butter or a dry oil with another dry oil.
  • Mango butter soothes skin and provides deep nourishment to your lips.
  • Cocoa butter provides the balms with texture and has restorative and protective properties.
  • Castor oil has restorative properties.
  • The waxes are included to solidify the final product and will also protect your lips.
  • If you choose not to add a flavour, you can replace it with an equal part of the first liquid oil. During our trials, we opted for vanilla flavour for ultra-gourmet homemade lip balms. Together with the cocoa butter, it imparts a delicious vanilla/chocolate scent!

Steps to follow

  1. Prepare and sterilize your equipment and workspace.
  2. Cut off the end of the pipette to facilitate transferring the finished balm into the tubes.
  3. Measure the oils, butters, and wax in the bowl, then gently melt on the double boiler. Once all has melted, remove from heat.how to make lip balm
  4. In the meantime, measure the vitamin E and optional flavour in a ramekin and mix together.making lip balm
  5. Add your vitamin E and flavour mixture to the melted contents of the bowl.
  6. Use the pipette (with its end cut off) to fill the empty lip balm tubes. If the mixture is no longer sufficiently liquid, return the bowl to the double boiler for a few seconds.easy lip balm
  7. Let the lip balms solidify in the fridge for 10 or so minutes. After removing them from the fridge, wait for about a half hour before trying out your new homemade lip balm!

Conservation

Made in optimal sanitary conditions, your lip balms should keep for at least 6 months.
